Challenge Day

Day 11

Notes: I did a short exercise time again today because it’s the first day of work where I have to park in the Employee Parking.  It’s going to take time to find it.  But to put myself to a bit of a test, I did all 3 Challenges.  I warmed up with the 30 reps of Jackknife followed by Bridge and Spinal Twist poses.  I started with the Plank challenge and beat my trainer at 20, 40 and 60 seconds.  I took a break by doing the Downward-Facing Dog pose.  Following that, I tackled the Jackknife challenge and completed 10 and 20 reps.  My abs are now sore from doing 60 reps today.  Lovely.  I did the Shoulder Stand to relax, followed by a Cobra pose.  I finished with 10 reps of the Push-Ups challenge.  Sometime in the future, I’ll do more of the Challenges.
Best Exercise: Plank Challenge.  It was easier for me to keep my centre of balance for some reason.  Maybe it’s because it was only in short bursts instead of a 90 second marathon? Who knows.
Worst Exercise: Spinal Twist.  Wasn’t feeling it today.

Gaining weight without trying

Day 10

Notes: I’m not going to lie, I got lazy on the weekend and didn’t work out.  These are the results of it.  Funny, I lost weight last time when I stopped working out for two days.  Now I’m closer than ever to my weight.  Maybe it’s fluctuating in my favor? … 20?! Wow.  I should not work out more often apparently.  The only downside to this weekend is that my abs and chest feel a bit flabby instead of nice and toned like they were starting to feel last week.  That’s why I’m doing this experiment right? Interesting… I just checked my progress over the whole 2 years that we’ve had this game, and from Christmas Day 2008 to April 2009 I was at a Normal BMI.  I guess being a student gives me the inverse Freshman 15.  I focused on my chest, arms and thighs today for something different.  Tomorrow I’ll go back to working out my whole body.
Best Exercise: Cobra.  Again.  I was looking forward to doing this pose.  That has never happened in my life.
Worst Exercise: Jackknife.  I still slightly dread it, but today the 30 reps seemed very easy.  Tomorrow will be another story I’m sure.

Switch Up

Day 9

Notes: YESSSSSS! I did the Basic Balance Test with 0.3 seconds to spare! Finally! Today I switched it up and did the aerobics games.  I did 20 minutes of running and 6 minutes of Hula-Hoops.  It’s pretty fun.
Best Exercise: Super Hula-Hoops.  I got to almost 2000 spins total and I was out of breath by the time I finished.  Definitely a work out.
Worst Exercise: 1-P Run.  Not really the worst, but I had to work at keeping the Wii-Remote from sensing my arm movements all the time.  I would of put the Wii-mote in my pocket, but I don’t have any pockets to speak of when I work out.  My clothes are 0 lbs heavy when I do my Body Test if you get my drift.
What I ate and drank today:
Peameal bacon sandwich with a glass of water for Lunch

Slowly but surely

Day 8

Notes: Damn it! I was .5 seconds away from completing the Basic Balance Test! So close, yet so far.  There was this weird delay in giving my Wii Fit Age… like the game was trying to psych me out or something.
Best Exercise: Push-Ups & Side Plank (10 reps).  I decided to go back down to 10 reps just to get more used to the exercise before moving back to 20.  10 reps still feels like a workout and my arms are definitely feeling the burn.
Worst Exercise: Downward-facing Dog.  After completing the Push-Ups,  I had a hard time keeping my balance 50/50 during this yoga pose.  I guess that’s why they put these two exercises together.
What I ate and drank today:
1 glass of water during workout
General Tao Chicken with Chinese Stir-fry and a glass of water
Roasted chicken with california mix steamed vegetables and 1 L of water
1 L of water at work

Break

I decided not to work out today because it is apparently better to work 2 days/3 days with a break in the middle.  So that’s what I’m going to do.  I’ll resume my workout tomorrow!

Sittin’ down, writin’ stuff

Tonight was an interesting night.  We are in the process of installing upgraded programs into our ticket machines, so there have been a lot of malfunctions, which results in a lot of angry customers.  “The machine ate my ticket”, “My credit card won’t work!”, “How do you pay cash?” (use a cash machine, you idiot).  I was recruited to stand at an exit area and record what machine screwed up, how, and what time.  By the end of my shift I had 3 pages worth of problems that clients were experiencing.  Basically I got paid to sit around and talk to my co-workers while I wrote down an issue once in a while.  I wonder what tomorrow will bring? More of the same thing?

One Week’s Worth of Exercise

Day 7

Notes: 25 is my youngest age yet with this experiment! I’m still not entirely back on track towards my goal, but I’m not below my starting weight.  Every day the Plank exercise gets a little easier to do.  I was still unstable, yet I made it through.  I wonder if there are more reps for the Torso Twist.  6 each for horizontal and vertical seems too easy.
Best Exercise: Cobra.  I felt an amazing stretch in my legs and in my back.  It was much needed after the Push-ups and Plank.
Worst Exercise: Tree.  I was one shaky tree today.  I tried the 20 reps of Push-ups & Side Plank and failed.  I could only do 10 and then I had to half-ass the rest of them.  I’m going back to 10 tomorrow until it feels effortless.  At least I tried.
What I ate and drank today:
1 glass of water during workout
3 spring rolls, 3 phyllo-wrapped sausages, a breaded chicken cutlet, and 2 pot stickers for Lunch
Chicken breast, green beans and carrots, 4 cookies, and 750 ml of water for Dinner
1 1.5 L of water during work

My body is like teflon when it comes to weight: it doesn’t stick.

Day 6

Wii Goal: +8.4 lbs away from goal (+5.1 lbs)
Notes: Apparently I lost a lot of weight on the weekend.  All I did was work on Saturday and hang out with my brother and tan on Sunday.  What gives? The Wii-Fit did give me a good tip to remind myself how to gain muscle mass.  Eat protein and sugars AFTER your workout to gain muscle.  I’ll have to start doing that, or I’ll never reach my goal.  Just for fun, I did the Deep Breathing exercises with my eyes closed.  I have a harder time keeping still when I don’t have anything to focus on.  I’ll keep doing it throughout the week to see if my balance becomes more stable.  Tomorrow I will do a challenge and attempt 20 reps of Pushups and Side Plank.
Best Exercise: Chair.  I killed it! I focused my energy on keeping my legs stable and using my abs to keep my balance and it worked.
Worst Exercise: Plank.  I failed it because my knees touched the ground.  Oh well, tomorrow I’ll do it and be less shaky too.  Maybe I didn’t so well on it because I haven’t worked out in 2 days?
What I ate and drank today:
2 glasses of water and a bowl of pecans during workout
A small plate of turkey for Lunch
A regular size cup of New York Fries
A double Big Mac with large fries and iced tea
710 ml of Green Tea Iced Tea
A very unhealthy day.  Although this may work out in my favor tomorrow if I can turn it into muscle.  Who knows?

Wii Fit Experiment Week 1 Review

Today and tomorrow I am giving my body a break so I can resume my progress on Monday.  So far things are going pretty well.  I’m starting to see a bit of a change in my stomach and my triceps feel a tad bigger.

Here is what my workout looks like as of the end of this week:

Deep Breathing
Torso Twist (6 reps) + Triangle
Jackknife (30 reps) + Bridge + Spinal Twist
Lunge (20 reps per leg) + Warrior
Single-Leg Extension (20 reps per leg) + Standing Knee + Dance
Sideways Leg-Lift (20 reps per leg) + Sun Salutation
Arm & Leg Lift (20 reps per arm and leg) + Shoulder Stand
Tricep Extension (20 reps per arm) + Palm Tree
Single-Leg Twist (20 reps per leg) + Half-Moon
Rowing Squat (45 reps) + Chair
Single-Arm Stand (20 reps per arm) + Tree
Push-Ups & Side Plank (10 reps*) + Downward-facing Dog
Plank (90 sec.) + Cobra

* – 20 reps has been unlocked, but I am not going to attempt this until Day 7

Two Interesting Things

I saw a nun wearing a habit and another nun just in white (it looked as if she didn’t bother to wear the black part that goes on top of it) paying for their parking ticket at a machine.  It was a bit surreal.

5 minutes later, I saw the guy who freaked out over a dollar.  He used cash again and got the correct change this time, so there was no crisis.
